Alane Newsreaders

Based on the functionality of the ALANE suite, Edia has developed a number of products: the newsreaders. With the newsreaders, students learn new vocabulary by reading today's news. Often, news articles are too difficult to serve as learning material, but by using our language technology we are able to select articles that fit with a learner's (second) language profficiency, interests and learning goals. We select texts that are comprehensible, and at the same time provide enough opprtunities for learning new vocabulary.

Since the start of this schoolyear, Edia is cooperating with BOOM publishers in the distribution and licencing of the newsreader for learning Dutch as a second language. In 2009, Edia will release the newsreaders for a number of new languages, such as English, German, French and Spanish.
More information about the ALANE newsreaders is available at a dedicated site here (in dutch). On this site you will find more information on obtaining a demoaccount for the Dutch newsreader with BOOM publishers.
